Do you want to see a miracle?
I don’t know what to make of miracles. The Bible is chock full of them. You can’t turn a page of the Gospels without bumping into a miracle of Jesus. The blind suddenly see. The lame find their footing and lumber into a new life. The dead catch their breath. And all because Jesus touched them or spoke to them or wept for them.
We have miracles today but no one is writing them down like Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. There are people who come back to life after catastrophic injuries. There are lost children who are found. There are people with no reasonable path to wholeness who somehow, someway stumble into it.
Of course, for every miracle these days there are many more that are missed. The healing that doesn’t come. The relationship that doesn’t mend. The hurt that just seems to go on uninterrupted day after day.
I don’t know what to make of miracles but I still pray for them almost every day. Not to change God’s mind, but to add my voice to the immense chorus of the living and dead who cry out for the wholeness of God’s dream to come on earth as it is in heaven. I still pray for miracles and keep my eyes open to see the glimmers and glances of the miraculous that permeate each precious moment.
Christ Church has been a part of many miracles in our 80 years. The walls of our church are soaked with prayers for miracles as well as prayers of thanksgiving and prayers of heartbreaking lament. There are unexpected miracles that surprise us and miracles we are still waiting for even after all these years.
Do you want to see a miracle? Sometimes we are clearly invited to help make a miracle happen.
There are more than 500 students preparing to return to school at Rama Road Elementary School in the next two weeks. For years, Christ Church has helped the students and teachers of Rama as they take part in the everyday miracle of education. For years, we have put the call out for support and support has arrived like the manna in the wilderness.
This year we need your help to make the miracle happen. Before the pandemic, our school supply drive would fill the Blue Room with everything the students of Rama Road need to have a great school year. Since the pandemic, it has been hard to capture that same energy.
The needs have only gotten bigger since then so it is time to pray for a miracle. Imagine if we were able to fill the Blue Room once again! Imagine the sigh of relief a parent at Rama Road would feel knowing their child is prepared for school this year. Imagine being a part of that miracle for just one person! Now imagine that miracle for every single student in need.
You can purchase the items listed below and deliver them to Christ Church (1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207) or order from our Amazon Wish List by this Sunday, August 20. Make this a project for your whole heart and your whole family. Let your kids and grandkids join you as you help Christ Church be a part of a miracle.
Together we can see a miracle. Together we can be a miracle.
