Just a Little More Light

Mar 11, 2026    Joshua Case

This past weekend many of us woke up a little groggy. The clocks jumped ahead, the rhythm of the morning felt slightly off, and our bodies had to catch up with the calendar.

Daylight Saving Time does that. It interrupts the pattern we’ve settled into. For a day or two it feels inconvenient. But then something subtle begins to happen: there begins to be just a little more light.

You notice it first in the evening. The sun lingers just a little longer. Walks stretch a bit further. Conversations on the porch don’t end quite as quickly. Children stay outside longer. The day seems to open.

A small disruption … and suddenly there is more light to live in.

It strikes me that this is not unlike the spiritual journey we’ve been reflecting on in church over the past few weeks.

Again and again in the Gospel stories, Jesus interrupts the ordinary rhythm of someone’s life. A late-night conversation with Nicodemus. A surprising encounter at a well. A question that unsettles someone’s assumptions. A moment when the familiar gives way to something new.

These encounters are rarely comfortable at first. But almost always, they lead to more light.

More awareness.

More grace.

More possibility for a life aligned with God’s love.

Lent itself is something like a spiritual time change. The church gently shifts our rhythm – inviting prayer, reflection, generosity, and honesty about our lives. It can feel like an interruption to the pace we’re used to. But the purpose is not disruption for its own sake. It is so that we might begin to notice the light.

The light of Christ that is already breaking into our lives.

The light that reveals where grace is waiting for us.

The light that gives us just a little more room to walk, listen, and love.

So, if this week feels a little off as your body adjusts to the clock, perhaps receive it as a small spiritual reminder.

Because sometimes, when the rhythm shifts… God is simply giving us just a little more light.
